# Renewal and Replacement

Renewal and Replacement workflows in CERTInext prevent service outages by ensuring certificates are renewed before expiration and replaced seamlessly where required.

CERTInext continuously monitors certificate validity and triggers renewal actions based on defined thresholds.

#### Renewal Management

CERTInext supports:

* Manual renewals initiated from the portal
* Automated renewals using bots and APIs
* Policy-driven renewal timelines (for example, renew 30 days before expiry)

Renewed certificates are automatically linked to their predecessors, preserving lifecycle continuity and audit history.

#### Replacement Scenarios

Replacement may be required when:

* Cryptographic algorithms or key sizes change
* Certificate ownership or domains are modified
* Compromised or non-compliant certificates must be replaced

CERTInext handles replacement as a controlled lifecycle event, ensuring the old certificate is retired only after the new certificate is successfully deployed.
